Graduated in cultural anthropology from La Sapienza University, Federico Mento has obtained a PhD in ethno-anthropological sciences from the same institute, with a thesis on urban studies in Latin America.
From 2000 to 2003, he worked in social planning at the Ora d’Aria Association, an organization active in the social and labour reintegration of prisoners.
From 2006 to 2008, he worked at the Ministry of Youth Policy and Sport, developing the area related to sport for all.
From 2012 to 2019 he directed the Human Foundation, while since 2015 he has been Secretary General at Social Value Italia. He also sits on the Board of Social Value International. Since 2020 he has been on the Advisory Board of Aimpact- AvanziEtica SICAF EuVECA S.p.A. Since May 2020 he has been Director of Ashoka Italia.
